CMF Sub-Brand to Launch Affordable Phone, Not Nothing Phone 2a

Nothing introduced CMF, a low-cost sub-brand, in September 2023 with the intention of "making great design more accessible." CMF has produced a couple wireless earbud pairs thus far. Another smartwatch produced by the business is well-designed and "just works and does what it sets out to do quite well."

Based on recent disclosures from Notebook Check, it appears that CMF is entering the smartphone market. Thus far, the phone that Nothing Phone (1) has named the CFM appears to be a little less expensive variant of the Nothing Phone 2a.

Parent company name Nothing already produces one of the best inexpensive phones available, the Nothing Phone 2a, which retails for about $349. The base model of the more costly Nothing Phone 2, which costs $599, isn't all that much more expensive. Thus, the sub-brand's new direction is a low-cost phone with the CMF brand.

The majority of the X's primary specifications were just leaked by prolific Android leaker MlgmXyysd, and they have a lot of resemblance to the Phone 2a.

The 6.67-inch OLED screen on the CMF Phone (1) will be marginally smaller than the 6.7-inch AMOLED panel on the Nothing Phone 2a. It is expected to come with the same MediaTek Dimensity 7200 processor as the 2a. Last but not least, the CMF Phone (1) seems to feature a 5,000 mAh battery as well, but with 33W fast charging rather than 45W like the 2a. These days, it seems that all new phones—even those in the cheap and mid-range—must have a 5,000 mAh battery.

The CMF Phone (1) will include a microSD card slot, 128GB or 256GB of storage, and 8GB of RAM for storage. Once more, it's comparable to the 2a, despite the fact that the 2a has a 12GB RAM variant.

The CMF Phone (1) has a 50MP primary camera and a 16MP front camera, which is a little less powerful than the other. Nothing's phones often perform worse in this area, as seen by our comparison of the Nothing Phone 2a and Pixel 7a in photos.

However, it seems that the phone's materials differ in one way. The CMF Phone (1) will not come with the same eye-catching LED light Glyph interface that Nothing phones do, which may come as no surprise. Although the leaker mentions that the plastic back is changeable, we assume that CMF will provide a variety of backs for those who like a little more personalization.

The leaker claims that the Nothing Phone (1) CMF will be on sale in July 2024 for $249 or $279, depending on the storage capacity that a consumer chooses. At $349, the Nothing Phone 2a comes with 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM.

If this is accurate, Nothing and CMF made an unusual decision, although we can see the motivation for a lower phone cost.
