Google Circle to Search: File Discovery and Song ID Feature Coming Soon

According to 9to5Google's research, Files by Google may receive an update to Circle to Search in order to align with Made by Google and the upcoming Pixel 9 series.

9to5 discovered that when you open a picture, you could now notice a button (using one of two styles) above the standard Edit button after deconstructing the most recent APK file for the Files by Google app. When you tap the second button, the Circle to Search interface appears.

There is no app user interface (UI) to get in the way of your search because just the image opens in Circle to Search.

For users of the app's beta version, this annoyingly seems to be a server-side adjustment. It is thus not guaranteed that you will be able to attempt this, even if you install the beta.

Nevertheless, it appears that activating "AI-generated summaries" for text files accessed using Files by Google is another locally-enabled feature. To use it, though, you might already have to have on-device AI installed. That's okay if you're using a Pixel, but it might mean other Android phone models can't get it.

Google Circle to Search: File Discovery and Music ID Coming Soon

In other Circle to Search news, Android Authority claims that Google may soon enable it to identify music that are playing nearby.

It's obvious that Google understands how to add a function elsewhere because it already offers the Now Playing option on its Pixel lock screen. However, by just choosing a new music note button from the standard Circle to Search menu, you will be able to find out what is playing on the device as well as in the surrounding area thanks to the Audio Search feature.

Unfortunately, testing the functionality doesn't truly yield results. But consumers with suitable phones will undoubtedly be able to try this soon enough.

All of this is happening while we wait for the Made by Google event to start today. Maybe Google will make a public statement about these features along with the anticipated announcements about Gemini and Android 15. However, unlike Google's anticipated unveiling of the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold—four phones we anticipate to be among the greatest Android phones of the year—these are not assured.
