Although the Pixel Recorder software has occasionally had issues, with the Pixel 9 series, it appears to be getting better.
The Pixel Recorder app offers real-time on-device transcription and, for some models, bullet point summation on top. This makes it a terrific Pixel-only feature in principle. This transcription is powered by a previous iteration of Google Gemini's big language model, known as Gemini Nano, which is optimized for mobile devices. One significant drawback of these older Gemini Nano versions is their inability to transcribe recordings longer than fifteen minutes. However, the upgraded Nano in the Google Pixel 9 series vastly improves upon this.
An enhanced Gemini Nano with multimodality powers the new AI features of the Pixel 9 series. This includes the revised Recorder app, which appears to have, at least partially, overcome its prior restriction. In a recent study for Android Authority, Mishaal Rahman demonstrated the Pixel 9's ability to transcribe a 41-minute audio. The Pixel 9 is still unable to transcribe any recordings longer than an hour, though.

Who can benefit the most from Pixel Recorder transcription at the moment is restricted to those who can utilize the function for less than an hour. It nevertheless manages to differentiate itself from other choices that can transcribe longer recordings, such as iOS 18's transcription function on phones without Apple Intelligence, thanks to the real-time transcriptions and the ability for bullet-pointed summaries.
Along with fantastic hardware upgrades, the Google Pixel 9 series has also included software updates. For example, in terms of power and power efficiency, the new Tensor G4 chip clearly outperforms the previous Tensor G3. The Pixel 9 has a brighter, more durable display in addition to longer battery life. In order to aid with AI activities, Google has also boosted the RAM capacity of all the models. Additionally, an upgraded ultrawide camera is available.
