This year's notable improvement in battery life can be attributed to the bigger batteries that Apple claimed would be included with the iPhone 16 series. However, the business never disclosed to us the true size of the batteries.

Fortunately, all the specifics have recently been made public by fresh regulatory material from Brazilian regulator Anatel (via Blog de iPhone).

iPhone 16 Model Battery Capacity (mAh) Percentage Change
iPhone 16 3561 mAh 6.3%
iPhone 16 Plus 4674 mAh 6.6%
iPhone 16 Pro 3582 mAh 9.4%
iPhone 16 Pro Max 4685 mAh 6%

As you can see, most iPhone 16 models feature a battery that is around 6% larger than it was the previous year. The iPhone 16 Pro is the sole exception, with an extra 9.4% of battery life. That additional capacity is undoubtedly appreciated, especially since our testing revealed that the iPhone 15 Pro had the lowest battery life of the 2023 iPhones.

The iPhone 16 Pro's battery life is obviously influenced by a number of factors besides battery capacity. The energy in those batteries will travel a lot farther thanks to the A18 and A18 Pro processors' increased efficiency over their predecessors.

There have also been claims that iOS 18 extended the battery life of the iPhone 15 Pro Max; if accurate, this implies that Apple's most recent software is also having a significant impact. All of these elements work together to give the iPhone 16 Pro Max an amazing 18 hours of battery life on a single charge, though we haven't tested that ourselves.

iPhone Model Battery Life (hours:mins)
iPhone 16 12:43
iPhone 16 Plus 16:29
iPhone 16 Pro 14:07
iPhone 16 Pro Max 18:06
iPhone 15 11:05
iPhone 15 Plus 14:14
iPhone 15 Pro 10:53
iPhone 15 Pro Max 14:02

Now that the iPhone 16s is available for purchase everywhere, you can experience this better battery life for yourself. And when the first phone teardowns surface online and we have a clear view of the real batteries within the phones, these battery capacity will undoubtedly be verified.
