iPhone 17 Latest Rumors

Updated October 12

  • 120Hz ProMotion Display: The standard iPhone 17 model could get a smoother 120Hz refresh rate.
  • 12GB RAM in Pro Max: The iPhone 17 Pro Max is rumored to feature 12GB of RAM for better performance.
  • Jeff Pu's Optimism: Analyst Jeff Pu shared a note expressing huge optimism about the iPhone 17's features.
  • Battery Improvements: The entire iPhone 17 lineup is expected to use new tech to boost battery performance.

Even though the iPhone 16 has just been released, development is already under way on the iPhone 17, which will take its place in less than a year. Rumor mongers are also working hard to get all the information about a phone before it is released, while phone manufacturers are continuously developing the next iteration of their flagship model.

Even though the iPhone 17 won't be released for another year, several preliminary rumors regarding it have surfaced. Although the facts we have seen raise some intriguing questions about how major the 2025 iPhone upgrade will be, we still don't have a clear image of what Apple is preparing.

What is currently known about the iPhone 17 is as follows:

iPhone 17: Price & Release Date Predictions

It's not too difficult to predict when iPhones will be released. Every numbered iPhone has been unveiled in September for almost ten years (the exception being the iPhone 12, which was delayed by a month because of COVID-19). Put another way, there's a good chance the iPhone 17 will be revealed in September 2025 and released a week or two later.

With Apple hosting an announcement on September 9, the iPhone 16 definitely matched that pattern. On September 20, the four new versions went on sale.

It is far more difficult to determine the iPhone 17's pricing thus far in ahead. As of right now, it is known that Apple kept the prices of its iPhone models for this year same, with the iPhone 16 starting at $799 and the iPhone 16 Pro Max at the top of the list at $1,199. We would presume that those costs will stay the same for the iPhone 17 for the time being, but a lot may change between now and September 2025.

The 'Plus' form of the iPhone is rumored to be replaced by the iPhone 17 Slim, which trustworthy leaker Ice Universe says will launch in 2025 with the other versions. More on it later, but first, let's talk about the price: it will be high; according to one estimate, it may even cost more than the $1,199 Pro Max versions.

iPhone 17 Slim Added to Lineup

According to rumors, the iPhone 17 Slim will be a new, slimmer model of the iPhone, exactly as the name implies. This is allegedly a part of a goal to create "a new class of Apple devices that should be the thinnest and lightest products in the whole tech industry," according to well-connected writer Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.

According to reports, the iPhone 17 Slim would have a 6.6-inch display. It may have a makeover similar to the one that made waves in the iPhone range in 2018 when the iPhone X removed the Home button and added the notch. That being said, given the price that has been mentioned, the rumors that it is made of aluminum instead of titanium are a little concerning.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 17 Slim would put its thinness first, maybe even sacrificing its dual primary camera lenses. Although having that downgrade seems really odd and frustrating, Kuo went on to say that the phone may be among the first iPhones to use an Apple-made modem.

According to analyst Jeff Pu, there won't be an iPhone 17 Plus in order to create room for the iPhone 17 Slim. It's unfortunate, but not totally surprising, considering our favorable assessment of the iPhone 16 Plus and the Slim's predicted high pricing. The iPhone Plus series reportedly hasn't done all that well compared to the disastrous iPhone mini.

iPhone 17: Design & Display Features

It doesn't seem like the iPhone 17's design will alter significantly from the Slim. Analyst Jeff Pu claims that the iPhone 17 won't be expanding by 0.2 inches like this year's Pro models, instead staying at 6.1 inches. According to Pu, the standard model of the iPhone 17 Pro will not change, even though Dynamic Island will get smaller.

Even if they may have a similar appearance, two things may improve. First, the 120Hz ProMotion display on the base iPhone 17 may finally help with smoother performance and gaming at up to 120 frames per second. (More reports about the iPhone 17 display running at 120Hz support this assertion.) Like the Pro versions, the LTPO OLED panels that are planned will be able to decrease to 1Hz when using an always-on display.

Second, the screen might be a little more sturdy. The iPhone 17's panel will be "made of a super-hard AR [anti-reflective] layer," according to leaker Instant Digital on Weibo, making it "more scratch-resistant than you think." Maybe we won't need screen protectors as much in the future?

iPhone 17: Performance & Battery Specs

Apple's A-series CPUs are among the fastest available for smartphones, so they're no slouch. Our iPhone 16 Pro benchmarks demonstrate how well the A18 Pro chip, which powers the iPhone 16 Pro models, has performed.

However, the A19 chipset—which one would assume Apple would employ in the iPhone 17 series—might represent a significant advancement. It may be constructed using the 2nm technology, which would allow for higher transistor densities for improved effectiveness and performance.

Longer battery life is achieved by increased efficiency, which reduces power consumption. In light of this, Apple is expected to introduce a new feature with the iPhone 17 series: the company will produce its own batteries for the first time. It seems quite hopeful as the goal is to provide "significantly improved performance compared to the existing one."

According to analyst Jeff Pu, the iPhone 17 may come with 8GB of RAM. But according to a report to investors, Pu, the RAM for the iPhone 17 Pro models may be increased to 12GB, which would be a significant improvement above the 8GB in the present versions and likely a necessary bump given Apple's push toward on-device artificial intelligence. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the higher-end iPhones will also include 12GB of RAM.

The entire iPhone 17 might benefit from a new adhesive to lock the batteries in place, according to renowned leaker Majin Bu. This would make battery replacements simpler and less likely to cause harm to the handsets. Although Apple employed this similar technology in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, it appears that the four iPhone 17 phones will be the first to use it.

iPhone 17: Camera Features & Specs

There is currently no information available on the rear camera array of the normal iPhone 17, despite rumors that the iPhone 17 Pro Max variant would sport three 48MP sensors. That may be because nothing has leaked yet, or because the 48MP primary lens and 12MP ultrawide camera on the iPhone 16 have not changed. We'll find out.

An update to the front-facing selfie camera is one item that has surfaced. The 24MP selfie camera that Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst, predicts for the iPhone 17 will be a major upgrade above the 12MP TrueDepth Cam that has been available since the iPhone 11 Pro Max. There are also rumors that an iPhone might introduce a variable aperture camera lens for the first time.

In contrast, there are rumors that the iPhone 17 Slim will just feature one camera in order to save space, meaning it could only have two lenses at most. Given the importance that consumers place on cameras when selecting a phone, you have to wonder how well that will go over.

iPhone 17: Future Outlook & Expectations

Overall, it seems like the iPhone 17 will be a significant leap, particularly if the anticipated 2nm system-on-chip and 120Hz ProMotion display materialize.

While Apple focused more on new AI capabilities than major hardware advancements, the September release of the iPhone 16 phones are undoubtedly desirable updates, if not revolutionary ones. If the iPhone 17 Slim is added to the lineup, it appears like the lineup may diverge from that.
